Over this past weekend, i was with the family and friend looking for costumes for my brothers and sister. As we were looking i asked my friend what her family was doing for Halloween, and her remark made me think. She said “We don’t celebrate Halloween because of my mom, she thinks it’s a sin.” It’s understandable though because every religion is different with beliefs, and holidays. I just think of Halloween as a day to go trick or treating, not really as a religious stand point. After hearing this it really made me think as to why Halloween is celebrated as a major holiday. I honestly never thought about it, just celebrated it in the way my family does every year. I wonder if it’s a sin to celebrate Halloween as a Catholic? I mean i don’t worship the devil or anything like that, what so ever. Just dress up silly and and take my brothers and sister to get some candy. They love it! Who knows though, maybe one day i’ll sit down with my friends mom and bring it up in conversation.
